Sahara ( Paramount Pictures ) . Solar Burn Tower

A good example of our previsualisation work is on the Paramount Pictures film Sahara where we helped design and plan a number of sequences around the burn tower facility. Working with the director Brek Isner and visual effect supervisor Mara Bryan we designed the burn tower facility in addition to planning the layout and choreography of both tower and ground based mirrors. We then worked closely with the productions engineering department to prototype and test the full size tower set planned for construction on location. Following the design of the facility we animated the entire sequence as a digital animatic allowing the director, DOP, actors and onset crews to see just how the sequence would go together. During the course of the production we provided camera placement and movement data for all shots, aerial photography reference for helicopter shots, greenscreen size and placement data and digital choreography for both main actors and stunts. We completed our work on Sahara once production had finished its location shoot by recreating scenes using the actual location plate photography as a guide for both editorial and visual effects. All our shot data, both camera and model was ultimately supplied to Cinesite Europe as the starting point for their visual effects finals.
